College Football Power Ratings 1-5
We are halfway through the college football regular season and
already there has been many highs and lows with teams rising
and falling from the top 10. Two weeks ago No. 2 Auburn was
knocked off by Arkansas. Then this weekend, Auburn got some
revenge by knocking off the new No. 2 team, Florida. Of course,
the one constant has been Ohio State, sitting in the top spot
all season. Here's a look at the top teams in my college power
ratings.
1. Ohio State (88 PR): The Buckeyes (7-0 SU, 6-1 ATS) came into
this season No. 1 because of an incredible amount of offensive
talent returning. The offense has been as good as advertised
averaging 33 points, 155 yards rushing and 235 passing behind
senior QB Troy Smith (68%, 17 TDs, 2 INTs), RB Antonio Pittman
and speedy wide outs Anthony Gonzalez and Ted Ginn Jr.
What has been the big surprise is the defense, which lost its
top talent from 2005. The defense has been stellar, allowing
9 points per game. It may surprise you but the Buckeyes are 6-1
under the total because of that defense. Just as impressive is
that this team has faced its toughest competition already, winning
at Texas and Iowa. Ohio State is 14-0 SU, 14-1 ATS its last 14
games going back to last season. The will have cakewalk schedule
the rest of the way and should be 11-0 for the November 18 clash
with Michigan, currently No. 2 in the nation. The Buckeyes have
that game at home and they are 32-2 SU, 22-10-1 ATS their last
34 home games!
2. Michigan (84): Lloyd Carr really hasn't opened the offense
up this season, as they are passing for less than 190 yards per
game. He likes a balanced attack and they have one with QB Chad
Henne and RB Mike Hart. However, the Wolverines have been winning
with an exceptional defense. The front line has been spectacular,
reminiscent of the 1997 national title team, allowing 40 yards
rushing 1.7 yards per carry! They have risen to every challenge,
winning at Notre Dame (47-21) and at Penn State on Saturday.
They also should be unbeaten before taking on Ohio State, provided
they get by Iowa this coming Saturday at the Big House. It still
may be too early to look ahead, but last year Michigan lost 25-21
at home to Ohio State blowing a 21-12 fourth quarter lead. Conservatism
kills in football! In that game, Ohio State had the edge in yards
418-255. Neither team ran well, so at this early juncture that
game will likely come down to defense and the QB play.
3. Texas (84): The Longhorns would need help from Michigan to
have a chance at repeating as champs. It's also difficult to
see them repeating with a freshman quarterback. But this defense
is very good and the ground game and offensive line are as good
as you will find. They forced 5 turnovers in a 28-10 win over
Oklahoma and just rolled through a decent Baylor defense Saturday
in a 63-31 rout. However, remember Oklahoma held them to 232
total yards and just 3.9 yards per rush, while Ohio State manhandled
them 24-7, passing for 269 yards. The toughest remaining test
for the Longhorns will be Saturday at No. 21 Nebraska.
4. USC (83): So how good are these Trojans? Well, they are nowhere
near as good as the last two years. In 2005 they averaged 50
points, in 2006 they average 30 points behind first-year starting
QB John David Booty (13 TDs, 4 INTs). The only thing they have
in common with one year ago is that no one has beaten them yet.
If they get WRs Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett healthy, this
offense has the best pair of wideouts in the nation. What should
concern USC fans is a defense that has given up over 130 rush
yards in three games. The last three games they've had to hang
on for dear life to beat Washington State, Washington and Arizona
State, as a favorite of 14, 19 and 19! Don't get your national
title reservations just yet: USC still has to play team currently
in the Top 20 in Oregon, Cal and Notre Dame.
5. West Virginia (83): The Big East is a toss-up between Louisville
and West Virginia. Both are a threat to run the table which could
upset any BCS title game plans for several deserving one-loss
teams. The Mountaineers are a team no one wants to play, with
their incredible backfield speed. Steve Slaton and Pat White
are averaging over 7 yards a carry! November 2nd at Louisville
is the game circle.

Home Of The Cup
For people who somehow do not know what the World Cup is, it
is the world championship of football or soccer as the Americans
call it. It is held every four years and involves almost every
country on the planet Earth is involved. This is why almost
after the finals were over; they begin starting the tournament
almost right after the finals. It takes almost four years to
whittle down to the teams that play in the finals.
By the time the tournament finals, they have whittles down about
200 teams to 32 teams. The 32 teams are divided into eight groups
that have four teams. They compete against each other in round-robin
tournament that whittle down the teams to the knock-out stage.
In the knock-out stage, it is when the teams have to win the
game. If they lose the game, they are out of the tournament for
good. The final game this year was between France and Italy.
Italy was able to make it to the based on a balanced attack.
This means that their defense was as good as their defense. They
only allowed two goals throughout the finals. They even beat
the host country, Germany.
France made it to the finals by sheer force of will. Half the
team was retiring this year. Zinedine Zidane, the captain of
the team, was also retiring after the tournament. His experience
and his teammate's experience allowed them to get them to the
finals. Zidane was honored with the Golden Ball award for being
the best player in the tournament. Italy was able to make it

The final game could have been seen as the old versus young.
A team, full of nearly retired people, was playing against a
relatively young team. IT won because the oldsters acted like
youngsters. One of the Italian players said something to Zidane
about his mother. Instead of being the cool-headed oldster that
he usually is, Zidane head-butts the Italian player and is thrown
out of the game. Zidane is not there for the penalty goal phase
when the game ends 1 to 1. France loses the game because one
of their members decides to act like a 5 year-old.

History of Minnesota Vikings
Minnesota Vikings are a professional American football team
that makes Minneapolis, Minnesota its home base. They are part
of the National Football League and play in the North Division
of the National Football Conference. They were originally going
to be part of the American Football League, but the ownership
found that they preferred to be in the NFL. They were a 1961
expansion team.
As a NFL member, they have won their division. They have the
distinction of being the first to appear in four Super Bowls
as well as being the first to lose four Super Bowls.
The Minnesota Vikings history begins in August of 1959 when
three Minnesotan businessmen named Bill Boyer, H.P. Skoglund
and Max Winter were awarded with a new franchise in the American
Football League. Bernie Ridder joined these three men in their
ownership of the team and this ownership decided to forfeit their
AFL membership and become part of the National Football League.
To become part of the NFL, they had to add Ole Haugsrund as part
of the ownership. The NFL had a deal with him that he would get
10% of any future Minnesota team as compensation for buying his
Minnesotan football team in the 1920's. They accepted this new
member to their group and they were awarded with the NFL's 14th
franchise. The team did not play until 1961.
Other than losing four Super Bowls in their history, Minnesota
Vikings are known for making one of the biggest personnel blunders
in the history of the NFL. This blunder took place when they
acquired Herschel Walker from Dallas. In the deal, they got Herschel,
a 3rd draft pick (Mike Jones), a 5th draft pick (Reggie Thornton),
a 1990 10th round choice (Pat Newman) and a 1991 3rd round choice
named Jake Reed. In return, Dallas got Issiac Holt, David Howard,
Darrin Nelson, Jesse Solomon, Alex Stewart, 1990 1st, 2nd and
6th round choices, 1991 1st and 2nd round choices and the 1992
1st and 2nd round choices. Dallas Cowboys definitely got the
better part of this deal. As result of this deal, they got Emmit
Smith and Darren Woodson. Their draft picks lead them to 3 Super
Bowl victories in the 1990s. The Minnesota Vikings did not win
any Super Bowls and Herschel Walker did not have a good career
with the team.
A rune stone that was found in a small Minnesotan town supposedly
curses the Minnesota Vikings. It is known how you get rid of
the curse.

Allen NFL Power 10 - Week 6
#1 Chicago: There's just no denying that this is the best team
in football. The defense is full of lightning quick maulers
that fly to the ball. The only thing left for Rex Grossman
to prove is that he can stay healthy for an entire season.
The Bears next five opponent are a combined 8-17. Chicago will
break a sweat in the Giant game but should be 10-0 heading
to November 26th date with New England, game three of three
straight roadies.
#2 Indianapolis: The Colts are still unbeaten but seem to be
using up a life per week. Dungy's determination to run the ball
at all costs is admirable and should pay dividends down the line
until the defensive front seven can figure out a way to stop
the run, the colts are ripe to be picked at any time.
#3 Denver: The Broncos are the complete package and the defense
must now definitely be classified among the league's elite. I
still think running game is down a notch without crunching fullback
lead blocker but if Plummer can continue to manage games without
turnovers, the Broncos will be tough to beat.
#4 Philadelphia: The Eagles are as resilient as they come and
always seem to manage with what they have. Donovan McNabb is
having an MVP first half. The defense is suspect, the killer
instinct is lacking, and they always seem to be just one injury
away from disaster but all they do is win.
#5 New England: The Pats head to the bye knowing that they haven't
put four quarters of football together yet this year but after
just five weeks have all but clinched the AFC East. The defense
is stingy and the offense will improve as Brady works things
out with his receivers. Until then it's the Dillon/Maroney show.
#6 San Diego: Should be unbeaten and continue to dominate on
both sides of the ball. Rivers is slowly but surely being given
the opportunity to show his stuff. It's scary to think that Tomlinson
is yet to break out and that Antonio Gates is still underutilized.
The defense can play with anyone.
#7 Baltimore: The Ravens were somewhat exposed in Denver although
they were dead even with the Broncos with five minutes to play.
The defense simply cannot do anymore than it already does. McNair
will have to find a way to make a play without getting picked.
Special teams still questionable.
#8 Seattle: Could move up substantially with a win this week
against the surprising 4-1 Rams in St Louis. Alexander still
out but the bye week will have allowed Holmgren to make needed
adjustments during the bye. Tough to get the bad taste out of
your mouth after the 53 man meltdown in Chicago.
#9 Cincinnati: The blueprint of how to beat the Bengals has
been established. Run the ball, move the chains, and keep the
Cinn offense off the field. Injuries have left the stop unit
paper thin and offense will have to do without WR Henry for more
time due to suspension. Marvin Lewis will have his work cut it
to keep the ship afloat.
#10 Atlanta: The Falcons are the Falcons and will always be
limited by whatever Vick can pull from his bag of tricks. The
defense has been outstanding and would have been better if John
Abrams had been able to stay healthy. Mora Jr is going to have
to find a way for Dirty Birds to cash in the red zone if Atlanta
is to be any more than 10-6 and one and done.
